Designing the Future of Financial Education

About Mykail James
We don’t need more financial advice,
we need better financial education systems.
My work focuses on how people learn about money, not just what they learn. I create interactive learning engagements with real-world scenarios to educate and empower learners.
As an educator, I’ve supported thousands of young professionals and college students in building confidence with their finances and creating systems that actually work for their lives. My approach blends academic research with lived experience, resulting in financial education that is both practical and deeply relevant.
But my work goes beyond individual transformation.
I design financial education experiences that can be implemented at scale and applied to real-world situations. The current model of financial education is incomplete. It was built through a narrow lens and often fails to account for differences in background, access, and lived experience.
The mission is not just to teach individuals how to manage money. It is to transform how financial education is designed, delivered, and experienced.
Personal Finance Foundations
Here’s a sneak peek into how I design learning engagements.
I am Improving Financial Education Through...
I rethink how learning is experienced. Rather than relying on static delivery, I design interactive moments that prompt learners to apply concepts in real time. This approach creates more engaging experiences and supports stronger learning outcomes.
(Re) Designing Learning Engagements
Gamification of Learning
I use gamification as a core design tool for structuring learning, not just increasing engagement. By incorporating elements such as progression, collaboration, and challenge, I create experiences that encourage participation and sustained attention. This approach creates engaging, memorable learning experiences.
Research and Thought Leadership
My work is guided by research and ongoing exploration of how people learn and engage. I analyze how behavior, context, and experience shape learning outcomes, and apply these insights to my design approach. This allows me to contribute to conversations shaping the future of learning.
